A Free Self-Defense Workshop Saturday, May 14

Don’t become a crime statistic! Attend “The Best Defense,” a free self-defense workshop brought to you by the Virginia Beach Police Department and Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation. Participants will increase awareness of the environment, learn about crime prevention, obtain personal safety tips, and learn how to escape from potentially dangerous situations. Geared for those ages 12 & up, this self-defense workshop features simple skills that participants will practice under the supervision of Virginia Beach Police Department instructors.

All participants should wear loose, comfortable clothing and no jewelry. Those under age 16 must participate with a parent or guardian. Please note that for this free workshop, a membership card is not required. Register as soon as possible as this is a very popular workshop. Registration will be accepted until May 7, 2011. You may register by calling any Virginia Beach Recreation Center. FREE admission to Nauticus: Norfolk Resident Appreciation Day!



Norfolk Appreciation Day!
Since its transfer to the City of Norfolk in 2009, the citizens of Norfolk have made the Battleship Wisconsin feel "right at home."  To say thanks, Nauticus is offering free admission to Norfolk residents on Saturday, April 16, from 10 am. - 5 p.m.  Proof of Norfolk residency is required.  Throughout the day, which also marks the 67th anniversary of the battleship’s commissioning, enjoy a performance by the Hurrah Players, meet the Chick-Fil-A cow, who'll have coupons and giveaways, chat with members of the Wisconsin Radio Club, get Battleship Bucks good for a discount in the Banana Pier Gift Shop, enjoy a Battleship Meal Deal in the Outtakes CafĂ©, enjoy free celebratory cupcakes, and more!  Battleship Topside Tours will also be available for an additional fee.  Call (757) 664-1000 for more information.
