Sea turtle cold stunning season is here!

FOUND ON FACEBOOK:

Here is an important message I found on the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center Facebook page.
Sea turtle cold stunning season is here! As temperatures drop, sea turtles that are still in the area may go into a coma and strand. If not found in time, this condition can kill them. Many of these animals are so cold that it's hard to tell if they are alive or dead so it is very important to report them right away. Rehab facilities from Massachusetts to North Carolina are experiencing high numbers of cold stunned sea turtles this year.

If you find a stranded sea turtle on the beach, dead or alive, please call the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team right away at 757-437-6159.
Pugsley was a past cold stun patient at the Stranding Center.

The Hampton-Roads 'Tweet-In' is this Friday, January 14, 2011.

The Pilot is looking for a few tweets throughout the day from you, your neighbors, friends and co-workers.  The goal is to paint a picture of a day in the life of Hampton Roads.  It's kind of a cool idea.

The Hampton-Roads 'Tweet-In' is this Friday, January 14, 2011. IMPORTANT: Be sure to include the hashtag '#hrday' in your tweets.

Thanks for the heads up David Cartier!

What if we all made the commitment to buy $10 of local produce

A study by Virginia Cooperative Extension found that if each Virginia Household spent only $10 on local food and farm products weekly, it would annually generate $1.65 billion in direct economic impact for the Virginia economy, $384.2 million of that right back into our southeast region!

What if we all made the commitment to buy $10 of local produce or other farm goods each week this year? This year could be the year you eat healthy, help save the local farmer, and even save your local economy!
You can read more about the movement and our idea to commit to buying $10 local a week  at:
